Porsche Design Five-0
The Stuttgart-based sports car maker celebrates the 50th anniversary of its design studio with a pair of extra special 911s
To celebrate its golden jubilee, Porsche Design has unveiled two very special models – one of which you can actually buy.
Porsche Design was established in 1972 by 911 designer FA Porsche as a company that would carry the principles and spirit of Porsche beyond the boundaries of the automobile.
The first is a 911 S 2.4 Targa from 1972, restored for the anniversary and featuring the same colours as the Chronograph I watch that FA designed in 1972, with black dominating both the exterior and interior.
Along the flanks are classic side stripes with a platinum satin finish and integrated Porsche Design lettering and it will be parked in the Porsche Museum.
But what you can drive home if you wish to is the 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design, a limited run of 750 cars with numerous features inspired by FA’s iconic designs.
This special edition 911 has an all-black exterior, with interior cues to the past that include the classic checked Sport-Tex seat centre panels and the red second hand of the Porsche Design Subsecond clock in the Sport Chrono Package, which comes as standard.
Based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS, it can be ordered now from Porsche Centre Singapore for S$818,088 (without COE).
But if that kind of nostalgia still isn’t enough, go for the special version of the new edition of the Chronograph I, which features the edition number and wheel-shaped winding rotor to underline the connection to the 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design.
Ulrike Lutz, head of Porsche Classic, explains: “With the aid of the new Sonderwunsch (special wishes) programme, we were able to implement the idea of a unique pair of vehicles. The job of the designers and works restorers was to carefully transfer the specifications of the new car to the classic.”
